Since 2002, Marc has focused his practice primarily in litigation. He is meticulous and tireless – those characteristics make him a natural fit for that area of law. He began his career working on large-scale commercial disputes and defending a German automaker against product-related claims brought by consumers. Some of that experience he gained while at a boutique litigation firm in Cleveland, Ohio, but the bulk of his training occurred when he moved to practice with an Am Law 100 firm’s Chicago office. While in Chicago, his commercial litigation and product-related defense experience broadened to include class-action defense. In addition to in-house litigation training in that firm’s Indianapolis headquarters, Marc completed NITA’s week-long, intensive Building Trial Skills course where he learned tactics from some of the best trial lawyers and judges in the country.
Following the birth of Marc’s first child, he and his wife decided to move back to Marc’s hometown – Newport News. To that end, Marc joined the Newport News office of one of the largest full-service law firms in Virginia where he eventually became a partner. He continued to focus on litigation, and he added real estate disputes, title insurance litigation, and personal injury to his practice experience. Further, Marc continued his commitment to advocacy training by completing the week-long Trial Advocacy College offered through Virginia CLE in cooperation with the University of Virginia School of Law.
In 2014, Marc’s interest and passion for personal injury law ignited from a role-reversing experience. While pulling into his neighborhood one evening following a routine day at the office, an inattentive driver traveling in the opposite direction of Marc ran a stop light at a high rate of speed and struck Marc’s car in an offset, head-on collision. Every airbag in his vehicle deployed. The impact “accordioned” Marc’s car, caused him to briefly lose consciousness, caused airbag burns to his arms, and bruised his sternum and collar bone. That evening and the days following that accident provided Marc with a unique perspective on personal injury cases. From interactions with first responders and law enforcement to interactions with insurance companies and, ultimately, to claim filing, Marc lived the frustrating experiences of many of his clients. He recognized that injured parties are rarely made whole when they suffer losses due to the negligence or recklessness of another person. Thus, his role as an advocate for the injured took on even greater importance, and it culminated in Marc working for a large, multi-state personal injury firm where he focused 100% of his time fighting insurance companies on behalf of the injured.
Here at Caplan Law Group, Marc is continuing to focus his practice in litigation and, in particular, he is committed to continuing his advocacy for the injured. If you have been injured by the negligent acts or omissions of another, contact Caplan Law Group as soon as possible. Time is of the essence.
